Chapter 28 — Kindred Spirits
Adrian leaned against the wall of the dark prison cell, staring blankly into the dim room.
There was a toilet beside him. Since prisoners weren't provided with cleaning talismans, they had to use the toilet normally instead of relying on a talisman to clean their bodies and dispose of bodily waste.
The entire cell was covered by a formation array. Anyone inside had their strength sealed by the formation, leaving them with roughly the physical strength of an ordinary human.
Adrian had long since gotten used to it.
At least, as used to it as someone could get while sitting in prison.
Just then, the cell door opened.
"Get inside."
A female guard shoved a young man into the cell. He stumbled forward, nearly losing his balance before managing to steady himself.
The guard closed and locked the door behind him.
"You two better behave. I'll be keeping an eye on you. If you two do anything reckless, then..."
She didn't finish the sentence. Her voice simply trailed off as she gave them a warning look before leaving.
The young man watched her walk away before turning toward Adrian.
"Well, hello, friend. Why do you look so down?"
He sat down beside Adrian as if they were old acquaintances.
"You are a transmigrator, aren't you? You should have ambition. Don't lose hope. There are so many beautiful women in this world waiting for you to pursue them."
Adrian looked at him strangely.
"Ho..w do you kn..ow I'm a tr..ansmigrator?"
The young man looked surprised.
"What? Didn't they tell you? This cell is mainly for transmigrators."
Adrian's eyes widened.
"Th...is cell?"
"Yeah. In fact, I'm one too."
"Huh?"
Adrian's stutter disappeared for a moment.
"Are transmigrators so common?"
"Not really. When I asked one of the guards on the way here, he said only a few transmigrators appear in this world every few years. There were some transmigrators in this cell about a year ago, but they left after serving their sentences."
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
He shrugged.
"Until we got caught."
"I see. But ho..w did you ge..t cau..ght?"
Curiosity had gotten the better of Adrian.
The young man sighed.
"Do you really want to hear my painful story?"
"Yeah."
Adrian nodded.
The young man's expression immediately became hateful.
"Alright. Listen, then."
He clenched his fists.
"There was a girl I liked. I pursued her and did everything I could to make her like me back. But she kept treating me like a servant, like a dog at her command."
His face darkened.
"Every time I proposed to her, she rejected me, saying we were still young. She kept telling me that I should train instead of thinking about women all day. She even constantly compared my progress to hers and beat me up."
Adrian listened silently.
"But how could she understand someone like me? I was a middle-aged virgin in my previous life! As a reborn person, a man's mission in life should be to pursue women, not waste his youth training."
Adrian's expression became strange.
The young man continued without noticing.
"Besides, once I awaken my cheat, how difficult would it be to become the strongest? I only need to refine my flirting skills. The rest will be handed to me by my future cheat."
Adrian stared at him.
"Wa..it. Ho..w old was she ag..ain?"
"At that time, she was six."
The young man looked at Adrian in confusion.
"Why? Why did you ask?"
Adrian's expression stiffened.
"No, noth..ing. Noth..ing. You ca..n continue."
"Well, where was I?"
The young man thought for a moment.
"Right. She kept rejecting me, treating me like a dog. Then the years went by."
His expression suddenly became proud.
"Until we awakened."
Adrian listened carefully.
"I awakened a Tier 2 High-Grade talent, while she only awakened a Tier 1 Middle-Grade talent."
He smiled.
"Now it was her turn to pursue me. Her parents finally agreed to our relationship, and we got engaged."
"So I was finally looking forward to my future. I could already see myself becoming the great Harem King."
His eyes shone with excitement.
"But that night, she came to my room and kept buttering me up."
He smiled.
"Since she was going to become one of my future wives, I told her that I was a transmigrator. I even told her how great transmigrators were."
His expression suddenly twisted.
"And what did she do?"
Adrian waited.
"She left after hearing what she wanted and told her parents."
His fists tightened.
"Her parents reported me for some measly amount of money, as if our bond meant nothing. The authorities came and took me away. She even broke off our engagement on the spot."
His face reddened with anger.
"And my parents disowned me, telling me that I had killed their real son."
He took a deep breath.
"Hoof... hoof..."
He patted his chest.
"I need to calm down."
After a few moments, his expression hardened.
"I'll have my revenge after I get out of prison and my cheat awakens."
Adrian hesitated.
"But wh..at if you don't aw..aken one?"
The young man immediately shook his head.
"How can that happen? We're great transmigrators. We ought to have a cheat."
He looked completely certain.
"Even the classic trope of my engagement breaking happened. How can I not awaken a cheat?"
He pointed at himself confidently.
"Just wait. I'll awaken it soon."
Hearing that, Adrian also regained some of his confidence.
After all, he had gone through the same kind of betrayal.
"What about you, brother?"
Adrian's expression darkened.
His voice no longer stuttered.
"My situation is the same as yours. I don't know who reported me, but the authorities came knocking at our house a few days after I awakened, just as I was planning to leave for university with my twin brother."
He clenched his fists.
"They detained me and used some bizarre method to extract the truth from me. After that, my parents and my brother disowned me and cut all ties with me."
His anger grew.
"They forgot the bond we had and accused me of killing their real child."
Adrian looked down.
"And ever since then, I've been here."
The young man sighed.
"What a tragedy. We're both poor souls who were thrown into this world only to be struck by tragedy."
He looked at Adrian seriously.
"But don't worry. After we get our cheats, we'll make them pay for our humiliation."
He paused.
"By the way, what's your name?"
Adrian hesitated.
"Oh, my na..me is Ad..rian."
"I see."
The young man smiled.
"My name is Derrick."
After that, the two continued talking.
Before long, they were calling each other blood brothers, both convinced that once their cheats awakened, they would make everyone who had looked down on them pay.
What they didn't know was that the guards deliberately placed transmigrators together.
The reason was simple.
Transmigrators were far more likely to reveal information to someone who shared their background. Once they became familiar with each other and realized they had both come from another world, they naturally lowered their guard.
Then they would start talking.
They would reveal things they had managed to keep hidden.
For now, however, the authorities had simply marked Adrian and Derrick as mentally ill.
Most of the transmigrators who had appeared in recent years had come from the same world.
And almost all of them acted as though they were mentally ill.
They kept talking about cheats.
About becoming the strongest.
About women.
Milfs.
Becoming a Harem King.
Collecting jade beauties left and right.
Defeating young masters.
The list went on.
The strangest part was that many of them had been nothing special in their previous lives.
They had been fat, virgin losers who were too afraid to face reality.
Then they were given a second chance and convinced themselves that the world had finally recognized their greatness.
And now, they were sitting in prison, waiting for their cheats to arrive.
