Outcast protagonists start outside: exiled from the guild, shunned by the village, wrong class, wrong blood, wrong beliefs. Their stories are about surviving the margins and sometimes remaking the centre. Two shapes dominate: the outcast who claws their way in, and the outcast who decides the centre was not worth joining. The second is rarer and usually the better read. Pair with alienation.
