Chapter 44 — Rank 2: Adept Mage ( Part 2 )
The crystal immediately began glowing.
A moment later, the words Rank 2 appeared inside the orb.
The receptionist's eyes widened slightly.
"Congratulations on advancing to Rank 2, young sir."
"Thanks."
The receptionist took the orb back.
"Would you like to accept a mission?"
"Yeah."
The receptionist showed them several Rank 2 missions.
Ren looked through them for a moment before finding one that caught his attention.
It was a mission requiring the adventurer to kill a giant serpent.
The mission had no complicated requirements.
Simply kill the monster.
"This one."
Ren selected it.
The receptionist gave him the mission details and marked the request on his adventurer card.
Ren then grabbed Lyra's hand.
Blink.
The two disappeared from the adventurer's guild.
Using Continuous Blink, they soon arrived at the mission location.
Ren blinked them onto the top of a hill.
Below them, a gigantic serpent was coiled around the ground.
It was so enormous that its body looked almost as large as the hill itself.
The serpent's scales reflected the sunlight as its massive body shifted slightly.
Lyra stared at it in amazement.
"Such a huge snake."
"Yeah. It's pretty massive."
Ren raised one hand.
Hundreds of magic circles immediately appeared high in the sky.
The giant serpent sensed the sudden danger.
Its enormous eyes opened.
It slowly raised its head and stared toward Ren and Lyra.
"Hissss..."
Its forked tongue flicked in and out of its mouth.
Ren calmly looked down at it.
"Summon Meteor."
The hundreds of magic circles began activating simultaneously.
Ren had stacked hundreds of identical Rank 2 spell formations together.
Normally, a Rank 2 mage could not cast a genuine Rank 3 spell. But Ren's SSS-grade Magic Talent allowed him to manipulate and synchronize an enormous number of spell formations with incredible precision.
As the formations accumulated, their combined output continued to rise.
Quantity eventually produced a qualitative change.
Once enough Rank 2 spell formations were stacked together, their combined power crossed the threshold necessary to produce the effects of a Rank 3 spell.
This was how Ren could achieve Rank 3-level destructive power despite being only a Rank 2 mage.
The sky darkened.
Within dozens of square kilometers, the light above the battlefield was gradually blocked out.
A massive rock appeared high in the sky.
Then it began falling.
The meteor was enormous.
It was almost the size of a mountain.
The Titan Void-Serpent sensed the incoming danger and immediately reacted.
Its enormous mouth opened.
A brilliant light gathered inside.
Then—
BOOM!
A thick beam of light shot toward the descending meteor.
The beam struck the burning rock.
But it failed to stop it.
The meteor continued falling.
The serpent desperately tried to attack Ren, but there was no time.
The mountain-sized meteor crashed directly into its body.
BOOOOOOM!
The serpent was instantly crushed into a mass of flesh.
The ground beneath it shattered.
A tremendous shockwave spread in every direction.
The earth trembled violently as dust and debris erupted into the air.
A gigantic mushroom cloud rose from the impact site.
Ren calmly raised his hand and maintained a barrier around himself and Lyra, blocking the incoming debris.
After a few moments, Ren canceled the spell.
The meteor disappeared.
What remained was an enormous burning crater.
The valley where the serpent had been was practically gone.
Lyra stared at the destruction in disbelief.
"So... so strong."
