Chapter 43 — Rank 2: Adept Mage ( Part 1 )
Just then, Ren felt it.
The sturdy barrier preventing his breakthrough to Rank 2 had begun to loosen.
He immediately lay back down on the bed beside the unconscious Lyra and focused inward.
The enormous amount of corruption energy stored within his body surged into motion.
Using it as a catalyst, Ren began drawing in the mana surrounding him.
The mana in the air responded almost violently.
It rushed toward him from every direction, forming a massive vortex above his body. Thick streams of mana poured downward, entering his body through his pores and flooding his internal pathways.
The disturbance was enormous.
Sensing the commotion, Lyra's consciousness gradually returned from the blissful haze she had been in.
Her eyelids fluttered.
She blinked several times, slowly regaining her vision.
When she turned her body sideways, she saw the incredible sight before her.
Mana was rushing toward Ren in waves, forming a huge funnel above him before being absorbed into his body.
Lyra immediately understood what was happening.
He was breaking through.
She didn't disturb him.
Instead, she quietly watched.
Several minutes passed.
Then—
BOOM!
A terrifying pressure suddenly erupted from Ren.
For an instant, everyone within a kilometer radius felt as though a terrifying beast was staring directly at them.
Their knees weakened.
Their bodies instinctively trembled beneath the overwhelming pressure.
But just as quickly as it appeared, the pressure vanished.
Ren immediately retracted his aura.
Normally, nothing particularly dramatic happened during a breakthrough. Most mages simply experienced an internal change as their mana capacity and control improved.
But Ren was different.
With his SSS-grade Magic Talent, even an ordinary breakthrough could create a disturbance far beyond what was normal.
"Haaah..."
Lyra released a deep breath as the pressure finally disappeared.
Ren slowly opened his eyes.
Lyra smiled.
"Congratulations on advancing to Rank 2, Sir Hero Ren."
"Thanks."
Ren had officially advanced to Rank 2: Adept Mage.
He immediately cast a cleaning spell over himself and Lyra, followed by a dressing spell that restored their clothes.
He then used another spell to clean the entire room.
Afterward, Ren grabbed Lyra's hand.
"Let's go."
Blink.
The two disappeared from the room.
The commotion caused by his breakthrough had been far too noticeable.
Ren didn't want to remain there and deal with anyone who might come investigating.
Blink.
Ren and Lyra appeared in front of the adventurer's guild.
Nobody paid much attention to them as they entered.
Ren and Lyra walked inside hand in hand, but they immediately noticed that several adventurers were talking about something.
"Did you feel that pressure earlier?"
"Of course I did. It nearly made my legs give out."
"I heard it came from somewhere around this town."
"Could it have been a monster?"
"No way. That pressure disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared."
"Maybe some powerful mage broke through to another rank."
"That has to be it. What else could cause something like that?"
A few adventurers continued discussing the disturbance, each offering their own guess.
"Whoever it was, they're probably at least a Grand Mage."
"Grand Mage? That should be a Grand Mage's doing. Maybe the Grand Mage was practicing a powerful spell."
"Then explain why everyone within a kilometer felt it."
Ren quietly listened as he walked past them.
'Looks like I caused a bigger commotion than I expected.'
Soon, he and Lyra reached the reception counter.
"Excuse me. I would like for my power level to be rechecked. I broke through to Rank 2 recently."
Ren took out his adventurer card from his Storage Mark and handed it to the male receptionist.
"Of course. Please place your hands on this."
The receptionist passed him a crystal orb.
Ren placed both hands against it.
