Chapter 35 — The Mortal Battlefield

The next morning...

Li Tianyu sat inside the inn, eating breakfast.

The inn was already lively.

Gu Masters came and went constantly, and conversations filled the hall.

Once again...

The topic eventually turned toward Gu Immortals.

"Did you hear? Another human Gu Immortal defeated a variant human Gu Immortal yesterday."

"Of course. That Immortal is truly impressive."

"Hmph. The variant humans are becoming increasingly troublesome."

"They should be suppressed before they grow any stronger."

The conversation continued.

Most of the praise was directed toward human Gu Immortals.

Most of the hatred...

Was directed toward variant human Gu Immortals.

Li Tianyu quietly listened.

He wasn't surprised that ordinary Gu Masters spoke so openly about Gu Immortals.

In Central Continent...

The existence of Gu Immortals wasn't some forbidden secret.

Everyone knew they existed.

Their names were discussed openly.

Their battles were discussed openly.

Even their accomplishments were commonly used as topics of conversation.

The reason mortals could speak so freely was rather simple.

Gu Immortals weren't allowed to casually descend into mortal battlefields and slaughter them.

That rule gave ordinary Gu Masters a certain sense of security.

There was also another factor.

Central Continent was currently embroiled in a war between humans and variant humans.

The common enemy had caused the hearts of many ordinary people to become unusually united.

As a result...

Discussions about Gu Immortals were often mixed with pride toward one's own race and hatred toward the opposing race.

Li Tianyu finished his meal.

He stood up.

After paying for the food, he left the inn.

Outside the city...

Li Tianyu immediately activated his flight-type killer move.

Crimson flames surged beneath his feet.

His body shot into the sky.

Whoosh!

He quickly accelerated.

Central Continent was enormous.

And unlike Southern Border...

The territories of humans and variant humans weren't separated into two completely distinct halves.

The two races were scattered throughout the continent.

Human cities could exist relatively close to variant human territories.

Variant human cities could likewise exist deep within regions surrounded by human settlements.

Each race controlled different patches of territory.

They established their own cities.

Their own mortal sects.

Their own organizations.

Their own communities.

It wasn't a simple division of the continent into a human side and a variant human side.

The situation was more complicated.

In a sense...

It was like different groups of people living throughout the same continent.

They could coexist peacefully for generations.

Then...

Conflict would emerge because of their differences.

And once hatred began accumulating...

The previous peace could quickly turn into hostility.

The Gu Immortal forces of both sides were different.

Unlike the scattered mortal territories...

The strongest Gu Immortals of both races generally resided closer to the central region of the continent.

That area was effectively the center of immortal activity.

Ordinary Gu Masters rarely approached it.

Li Tianyu had learned most of this information from the conversations he had overheard in the city.

He didn't intend to test his luck.

So while flying...

He deliberately avoided the territories controlled by variant humans.

There was no reason to unnecessarily attract attention.

He continued flying.

The scenery beneath him rapidly changed.

Mountains.

Forests.

Rivers.

Cities.

Villages.

All passed beneath his feet.

Li Tianyu maintained his speed.

He didn't need to travel particularly far.

Suddenly...

His expression changed.

He heard something.

Boom!

A distant explosion echoed through the mountains.

Li Tianyu slowed down.

Another explosion followed.

Then came the sounds of shouting.

Someone was fighting.

Li Tianyu's eyes narrowed.

He turned his gaze toward the source of the disturbance.

Smoke was rising from beyond the distant mountain range.

A battle was already underway.

Li Tianyu hovered in the air for a moment.

Then...

A faint smile appeared on his face.
